8/31/11 Schnitzel

Tonight after work Deb, Julia, and I went to Hohenecken for dinner. We went to the main hotel in the village which also happens to have a restaurant...the Burgschanke.

Not long ago this place still had dirt floors (OK, its within the 20+ years that George, one of the other teachers, has been in the Kaiserslautern area that the place got a real floor).

This place has real German food (go figure in Germany) but its supposed to be like "home style" food...if that makes any sense at all to you. They have the most delicious salad (wish I had thought to take a picture of it). It has springs lettuces, carrots, thin sliced cucumbers, some pickled cabbage, albino green beans and their "house" dressing...its kind of a mixture of yogurt (or so I think) and such. It is hard to do this salad justice but it was so good!

I decided to have the Jagerschnitzel

Admittedly, the picture does not do the food justice. According to Deb the schnitzel wasn't as good as usual, but I thought it was awfully tasty. Look at all that food, oh my gosh...and that was after having a salad. Needless to say, I will be having some jagerschnitzel and pommes frites for lunch tomorrow.

Not sure what I will do this weekend. It is after all a long weekend, but don't know if I can still get in on some of the USO tours or not. I was thinking of taking one to Amsterdam (If they still have room available). Not only does it go to the city but also to a wooden shoe factory and a cheese place. Or perhaps I will go on the tour to Trier for the Bread and Games...Trier is the oldest city in Germany. I guess I better see if any tours are still available before I start making plans. So anyway, that was my day...the only bad part was getting back to the room in time (or so I thought) to talk to the boys on Skype only to find the WiFi was out. Barely came back on a bit ago :( Oh well there is always tomorrow.
