Needless to say, after a few detours (thanks autobahn staus) it took us until about 10 pm to get to the Blue Beetroot (the hotel we were staying at in Poland). They were so kind though. We had called ahead to say we would be late and they asked if we would like to have a cheese plate (since the kitchen would be closed). We got there a little earlier than we thought so we had a few cheese plates and a bottle of wine. While we were eating/drinking the man on duty (I feel terrible that I didnt catch his name) proceeded to tell us about the shopping and give us a map to help in the morning as we started out. (the map proved to be less than completely helpful, but it was nice of him anyway).
This was my room at the hotel. It wasn't a 5-star resort, but it was comfortable.
This was my view from the little skylight in my room (this was my first real view of Poland since we got in so late).
A few more pictures from the hotel and the surrounding area. The hotel was actually a barn that has been converted to a hotel. The building is well over a hundred years old. Some of the surrounding buildings are even older.
Once breakfast was eaten it was time to set out on our task at hand...the reason for the trip...polish pottery shopping.
this place doesnt have polish pottery...they have blown glass products |
This is the restaurant we ate at...yummy |
pierogies |
these guys (there were many of them on the way) were hitchhiking their way to Rome. |
Stephanie brought these bananas along...no one ate them...but the bananas have probably been in more countries than most people from the USA. |
Needless to say, I need to go back and investigate Poland more than for just overnight shopping.
