So, through situation I have been stuck in lodging the entire time I have lived in Germany. Don't get me wrong, I have gotten out and about but have been staying in on base lodging...its inexpensive & its close to work. Both are important when you first move to a new country with not a lot of money in pocket and no car. The problem has been that I was stuck in lodging that was less than private...I had to share a bathroom with another room. It was like being in the military again (only I was in the army and we had even less privacy than that). Needless to say, I have been attempting to get out of that shared bathroom situation since the day I got here...with no luck.
Well no luck until today. Finally, a private room opened up...let alone one that is only a few buildings away from work. How fortuitous for me. Even better, all this privacy for only $5 extra a day. OK, so I figured for $5 more a day all I would get was the same size room with a tiny bathroom...oh but I was wrong.
What a nice surprise to be able to go get the key after school, slide that room key (card) into the slot and open up a room that is far from the Regency or some posh resort, but it does have a bedroom, and a full bathroom, and a living room. I get to live like a real person again. This thing is the size of a one bedroom apartment (well minus a kitchen as it just has a fridge, coffeemaker and microwave...but that is just splitting hairs to worry about that small of a detail.
So if you remember the other room (including the lovely view of the parking lot and the assorted military buildings) what a difference this one is...including a lovely view of the trees.
Ah a bedroom (it even has a tv in it)
the view from the windows in both the bedroom and living room
ok, the bathroom is not spa like, but its all mine for the next month (unless, fingers crossed I find a place to live between now and then)
The living room
And yes, I made this switch in time to go on the dinner cruise tomorrow night that wont get back until midnight...and since the bus will return to the school parking lot...bonus for me...its just two buildings away. The bad thing...I have a tour of the Swiss border to go on early (5 am) on Saturday, and now I am on the opposite side of the base...so I will be taking a longer stroll to get to the tour pickup spot...at 4 am...good thing its safe to walk around at that time here. I will be one sleeping tour person on Saturday though...guess I better take my pillow and blankie!
