The garden center was a nice place to go as well. Problem being, they had all these beautiful orchids. Of all colors and sizes. The problem in that is that I definitely do not have a green thumb. The price of the orchids help on that remembering the lack of green thumb, until...yes, always an until...I found these beautiful blue orchids for half price. Not only did I find one, but two, and they both looked different so they each had their own unique draw. I looked at them and considered getting them, but then that non-green appendage thing came to mind. Deb had the answer. They have these really cool pots here that seem to be manufactured primarily for the orchids. They are self watering and have an indicator of when you need to add more water. Deb assured me that even though I am botany challenged (luckily she didn't put it that way) I could more than likely grow an orchid here with this special planter. Then the dilemma came.
Which of the two orchids to choose. The one was much darker blue and more compact, the other was a lighter blue with white that was more spread out. They both were beautiful in their own right. Add to that, what color pot to put them in. Oh so many choices. So I chose the pot...an off white one. Then decided to go with the lighter orchid (it had more flowers on it...hey something had to be used to decide).
I know, I know, how silly to get a house plant when I don't even have a place to live yet. But there is method to my madness. You see, it is not so easy to find a place to live here. The main contender at this time is a place in Ramstein-Miesenbach, but it's not available until October 1st (I am hopefully going to talk to the landlord tomorrow about seeing it). It would be close to work but not too close. It's a good price (1500 euro) for a good size place 205 m2 (approximately 2200 ft2) and it has 3 bathrooms. OK, I know, I am living alone, why do I need more than one bath...simple, I hope to have visitors and I don't want to have to share a bathroom if I can help it. I am spoiled that way. It has 4 balconies (hopefully with some kind of good view) etc. So we shall see, but I digress. Since I wont necessarily find a place right away, I might as well have something to make the room on base at least feel a little more comfy and less Air Force Inn.
All of that being said, and knowing I really didn't do much else today, I thought I would show you my lovely orchid. I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day, mine was good and back to school tomorrow.
The cool planter:
Its got this indicator that shows when you need to add water (I added a little too much this time, but will be more careful next time.
The system:
My pretty orchid:
See it already made the not so nice view out my window so much better.
